Back in the day, Ashlee Simpson was hailed as the Smarter Simpson Sister. Her "Pieces of Me" garnered acclaim from radio hosts for some reason (I'm assuming payola) "Pieces of Me" is a fake emo/goth/mopey fake punk song. It's so bad it would make Iggy Pop dive into shattered glass and peanut butter to numb the pain. It would be too girly for the New York Dolls. "Pieces of Me" is the usual unrequited love teen pop. Not all music is supposed to be deep. Nor should it be. In "Pieces of Me",it's pretentious. Simpson aims for depth in the kiddie pool. "Pieces of Me" falls to pieces.
