Sammy Warm Hands—SYFFAL's "favorite rapper you've never heard"—is a prolific emcee, songwriter, producer, author, and director. Beginning as a punk singer/guitarist in the late 1990’s, Sam Wartenbee developed an impressive discography before even graduating high school. Around the same time, Ogar Burl was digging in the crates, learning to DJ and freestyle. He mentored Sammy's hip hop education, and their roles were later reversed, when the two hit the studio in 2013. With the release of Break The Bank (Take 92 Music)—the duo's twice-sold-out debut—Ogar too hit the road, opening the next three Sammy Warm Hands tours. These shows became the bedrock for a two-year writing binge, spawning a more sophisticated sequel. Rare Form (Crushkill Recordings) embraces evolution: the mic-passing single "Slubberdegullion" retains the stripped-down feel of Break The Bank, while the more conceptual songs like "God Paparazzi" showcase dense wordplay over beautifully layered beat production. Above all, Rare Form exemplifies the group's chemistry and lyrical dexterity, assisted by memorable features from Myka 9, Grayskul, and The Architex.
