The Munchner Radio Orchestra was founded in 1952 in Munich as the second formation of the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in addition to the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, It is dedicated to more of light entertainment and played in numerous operettas. Extraordinarily successful were his Munchner Sunday concerts .\r \r Over time, there was a increase in the repertoire towards Italian opera and Marcello Viotti in the direction of 20th century music . Although in recent years has been extraordinary artistic success under the direction of Marcello Viotti and the audience was the most popular , it should be dissolved because of austerity measures. On 27 April 2005 , the orchestra has been saved. In reduced form ( around 50 instead of 72 instrumentalists ), the Radio Orchestra since September 1, 2006 and has since been working on playing amplified in youth educational field .\r \r In 2010, the Munich Radio Orchestra was under the baton of Ulf Schirmer the ECHO Klassik 2010 for Karl Amadeus Hartmann's opera recording of " Des Simplicius Simplicissimus Jugend" in the category " Opera Recording of the Year
