It’s been 5 years since Thom Yorke’s The Eraser laid down new a new path to self-created, self-cut, DIY electronic music that artists could make anywhere there was a plug point and wifi access. Kyoka’s iSH, her first EP released under the Raster-Noton label, betrays Yorke’s influence even if no melodic insight can be found on its tracks. It’s Yorke-ish. Japanese-born and flitting between Tokyo and Berlin, Kyoka forms musical patterns from where none had previously existed; tessellations from arbitrary constellations of sounds; broken and formed, reassembled and cracked, rinsed and repeated. Ununpentium, much like its atomic namesake, is a creature of synthesis.
