Joanna Madroszkiewicz

The Polish violinist, Joanna Mądroszkiewicz, studied with Stefan Herman in Gdansk, Arthur Grumiaux in Namur and Günter Pichler in Vienna. From these three different violin schools she has synthesized her own unique style in which virtuoso playing is not merely brilliant technique, but the basis for reconciling the apparent opposites of passionate emotion and rich poetic color with the structures of chamber music.   Her brilliant career in Poland (Grand Prix as Poland’s best young artist, several international competition prizes, concerts in all the important concert halls in Poland) ended abruptly in 1981 with her decision to emigrate to Austria.   Joanna Mądroszkiewicz made her Austrian debut on December 14, 1981 in the Vienna „Konzerthaus“, followed by engagements throughout Austria, appearances in major halls in Europe and abroad (American debut in 1983) and   collaboration with outstanding orchestras, conductors and pianists. She made her Salzburg Festival debut in 1998 with Kurt Weill’s violin concerto accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic.   She accords particular interest to the solo works of J.S. Bach (a complete recording in 2002), the great 19th century virtuoso and the moderns. Her enormous repertoire (over 40 violin concertos; the entire violin literature of Haydn, Mozart,  Beethoven, Schubert, Paganini and Brahms; virtually the entire Polish violin literature; more than 100 virtuoso miniatures) has enabled her repeatedly to surprise and stimulate the music world.  One example is her DIALOG program developed in 1991.  Even outside the music world it has lastingly shaped understanding of the importance of intercultural understanding through musical expression.   Joanna Mądroszkiewicz has brought out numerous recordings. In 2005 her recording of Mozart was awarded the Vienna „Flötenuhr“ (Vienna flut-clock) price and last CD with  Karol Szymanowski’s complete works for violin and piano received the Luxemburg „Supersonic Award“.   In 2008 she was granted an advanced degree by the Vienna Music University and became a permanent member of the teaching faculty.   The first edition of the artist‘s poetry, containing the selected poems written on her emigration is already available.
