Popular German singer Frank Schöbel was born in the (then) East German city of Leipzig in 1942. The son of a famous opera singer, Schöbel took to the stage at an early age, but found that his passion for pop music outweighed his love and respect for the theater, and he soon found himself in the studio recording his first full-length solo album. Released in 1972, Wie ein Stern (Like a Star) launched the young singer into the spotlight, a place he would spend the rest of his career. Numerous recordings followed, as well as marriages to popular singers Chris Doerk and later Aurora Lacasa. His daughter with Lacasa, Dominique Lacasa, has achieved success as a singer herself.
